The nation’s leading local medical science institute has experienced a cyber attack. According to sources, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) website has been the target of more than 6,000 cyber attacks in the last day. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences’ server had previously been compromised.

Data on the server has been recovered. However, collaboration in the hospital is still required. Since it hasn’t yet launched the internet service. Experts from the National Informatics Center are attempting to restore the service.

It should be stressed that the ICMR was in complete control of India’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The ICMR was in charge of maintaining all COVID-related data and overseeing all COVID-related research. No information on how secure such data is offered. Sources claim that this cyber attack happened on November 30. In a 24-hour period, hackers attempted more than 6,000 attacks on the ICMR website. The cyber attack, according to a National Informatics Center representative, originated in Hong Kong from an IP address that has been blacklisted. Current improvements to the ICMR website are being made.

The attackers were promptly blocked, according to a representative of the National Informatics Center. Their objective was unsuccessful. In this regard, we have informed the party in question. Cyber attackers would have been successful in compromising the website’s security if the firewall had a flaw. However, no one from the ICMR has yet offered any commentary on the subject. All government organisations are required by NIC to update their website firewalls. Additionally, updating the operating system’s security patches is advised. The NIC official also stated that patient information held by healthcare firms is currently hackers’ top priority. Cyber attacks on the websites of health institutions have increased since 2020.
