PUNE: A 40-year-old delivery man for an online food aggregator was arrested on Sunday on accused of assaulting an engineering student at a city college the previous day, about 9.30 p.m. on Saturday, on the pretence of bringing a food box to her home.
On September 17, at 9 p.m., the 19-year-old female used the food aggregator’s application to order supper from a restaurant in the Kondhwa neighbourhood. The delivery boy brought the package to her apartment, which was on the fifth floor of a building, and asked her to give him water to relieve his thirst.
He stated: “After drinking some water, the delivery lad grabbed the girl’s hands firmly. Then, after the girl raised an alert, he improperly touched her before attempting to run. The delivery lad was grabbed by building occupants, who then turned him over to the police. The horrified teenager informed her landlord of the situation, who then called the police.” Says Khetmalis “Later, the girl went to the police station and filed a FIR under Indian Penal Code sections 354 (outraging a woman’s modesty) and 354 (A) (sexual harassment). Upon conclusion of the inquiry, a chargesheet would be prepared against the delivery guy.”
