PAN card lost? Apply for an Alternative Card Online and Know the Simple Procedure
A PAN, or permanent account number, is a very important document. This card is essential for financial transactions, buying and selling, and visa applications. The most important requirement is to file income tax returns. It is actually a ten-digit alphanumeric number generated by the Indian Income Tax Department for citizens.
But many times this PAN card gets lost. In this case, a “duplicate PAN” can be applied for online or offline. Or an electronic PAN card, or e-PAN card, can be downloaded directly from the e-filing portal of the Information and Technology Department.
However, it must be remembered that if this important document is stolen or lost, the matter must be registered in the form of a complaint at the police station. A copy of the FIR is very important so that no one can use the card for any malicious purpose.
Online Application Procedure:
- Visit the official website, TIN-NSDL.
- The application type should be “Change or correction in existing PAN data” or “Reprint of PAN Card (No Changes in Existing PAN Data”).
- Now you have to fill the specified space with information like a name, date of birth, and mobile number and submit.
- The applicant’s registered email address will be used to generate a token number.
- All information should be given in “Personal Details.” Here forward application documents physically, submit digitally through e-KYC and e-sign etc options can be selected.
After paying the application fee in the first instance, an “Acknowledgment Form” will be available. Take its print out and send it to PAN Service Department of NSDL along with self attested documents of Driving License, Aadhaar, Voter ID, Birth Certificate, Passport, Matriculation Certificate by registered post. In that case, a PAN reprint application or an application for change or correction of PAN information, along with an acknowledgment number, should be mentioned on the envelope.
To avail of the e-KYC service, Aadhaar is mandatory. An OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number in this case. A digital signature will be required to “e-sign” the form when submitting the final form.
Aadhaar cards are also mandatory for the submission of scanned images through e-sign. Scanned images of your passport-size photograph, signature, and other documents should be uploaded. It will also be confirmed with an OTP in this case.
- If you want to get an e-PAN card, you have to provide your valid email ID.
- Apply by filling out the form with contact details and document details.
- The site will take you to a new page after a certain amount is paid. An acknowledgement receipt will be available there.
The new card will be available within 15–20 days.
Offline Application Procedure:
- Request for new PAN card or/and changes or Correction in PAN Data—Form can be downloaded.
- All letters need to be CAPITAL while filling the form.
- 2 passport-size photographs to be attached. It should be crossed carefully.
- The form should be sent to the ‘NSDL Facilitation Centre’ along with the specified payment challan, proof of identity, proof of address and proof of PAN.
The duplicate PAN card will be sent within two weeks of receiving the application.
