Cyclone Mandous will make landfall at midnight, and Tamil Nadu is under a heavy rain warning

The cyclone Mandous is approaching by midnight today, it will reach the shore not far from Chennai. The Meteorological Department has consequently forecast thunderstorms for the neighbourhood. The general public has been warned by Chennai’s authorities. There have been five nights of cancelled flights.

The coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and South Andhra Pradesh are likely to be affected by the cyclone. The rain has already begun to fall. Due to the effects of the cyclone, the meteorological department has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rain. They stated that before hitting the ground, Mandous lost power.

Between Friday night and Saturday morning, Mandous will make landfall close to Mahabalipuram between Puducherry and Sriharikota. The wind could blow at 65 to 75 km/h. The top speed is 85 kilometres per hour.

For the South Andhra coast, Puducherry, and Tamil Nadu, an orange alert has been issued. At the National Disaster Response Force’s establishment on Saturday, schools and institutions were shuttered in a number of Tamil Nadu districts. Additionally, Friday and Saturday are non-school days in Puducherry.

Since Friday morning, a tidal wave has been visible at Marina Beach in Chennai. A Rs. 1.14 million wooden bridge that was constructed has broken. Rain fell at Tirumala, Tirupati, prior to the cyclone. The region is completely underwater.

To handle the issue, 12 National Disaster Response Force teams have been stationed in 10 districts of Tamil Nadu. Five flights were cancelled overnight.

Since Thursday night, rain has started in Chennai and the surrounding districts. Chamberbakkam and Pundi reservoirs now have more water in them. The decision to release water from the two reservoirs has been made by the authorities.

Mandous will have an impact on Bengaluru as well. The weather office has forecast rain through December 12. In Karnataka’s coastal regions, rain is likely. Andhra Pradesh has received an orange alert.
