Best Jagadhatri Puja in Chandannagar 2022
West Bengal celebrates the traditional festival of Jagadhatri Puja in Chandannagar. This traditional worship has become the norm all over the world. During the rule of Raja Krishnachandra Roy of Nadia, Jagadhatri Puja was more popular in Bengal. Dewan Indranarayan Chowdhury started this festival and the rituals of Jagadhatri Puja in Chandannagar after the Krishnanagar Rajbari Jagadhatri Puja.
History of Chandannagar
Chandannagar is located on the bank of Hooghly river. Bengal’s Nawab Ibrahim Khan founded the city as a French colony in 1673. The French East India Company had given it the forename “Chandernagor.”
The French company developed a factory and a permanent residence there in 1688. When there were more than 2000 brick houses built and the population was over a million, Joseph Francois Duplex reigned as the governor. From that moment forward, this city emerged as Bengal’s main hub for trade and commerce.
The location was renowned for producing quality clothing that was shipped to Europe. On November 23, 1757, the British captured Chandannagar following the war between France and Great Britain in 1756.
Later, France took Chandannagar from the British in 1763, again the British retake it in 1794. It was included into French India in 1950.
On October 2, 1954, Chandannagar entered a part of the West Bengal government. The Chandannagar Municipal Corporation was constructed in 1990. The West Bengal Municipal Corporation currently oversees the corporation.
History of Chandannagar Jagadhatri Puja
Nawab Alivardi ordered Raja Krishnachandra Roy for rupees 12 lakh in return for his services. Raja Krishnachandra was imprisoned in Murshidabad by the nawab when he was unable to pay the money.
The Durga Puja Visarjan was taking place at the ghat when the Raja returned to Krishna Nagar after being released from Murshidabad. Raja was aware that Durga Puja had already taken place. Because of this, he was unable to organize Durga Puja this year, and his heart was broken. A few days later, Raja Krishnachandra saw the goddess Jagadhatri in a dream. On the next ShuklaNavami of Durga Puja, he instructed the Nadia Nabadwip Raja to worship her.
The Raja began this traditional Jagadhatri worship in accordance with that directive. Dewan Indranarayan Chowdhury was thereafter moved to visit Krishnanagar Rajbari’s traditional Jagadhatri Puja. Additionally, he established the first Jagadhatri Puja in Chawl Patty, Chandannagar.
Best Jagadhatri puja in Chandannagar
The dewan of the French government in Chandannagar was Indranarayana Chowdhury. He was fascinated by the worship of Jagadhatri Puja in Raja Krishnachandra Roy’s palace. He began the first Jagadhatri Puja at Chandranagar’s Laxmiganj Chaul Patty after witnessing this puja.
The Laxmiganj puja is also considered as Chandannagar’s oldest Jagadhtri puja.
The Jagadhatri Pujas in Chandannagar are now renowned throughout the world for their lights, decorations, and processions. Through a lottery, 75 to 80 puja committees are chosen each year to participate in the procession of Dashami. The puja has now spread in Bhadreswar and Mankundu.
There are nearly 200 Jagadhatri puja held in Chandannagar-Mankundu-Bhadreswar area. Puja is celebrated here for four days and the main attraction is the immersion procession. Here the Famous Jagadhatri Puja are:
Chaulpatty Sarbojanin Jagadhatri puja:
The oldest puja in Chandannagar is the Chaulpatty Sarbojanin Jagadhatri puja. In 1755, Dewan Indranarayana Chowdhury inaugurated this puja. Ma Jagadhatri is shown here with “Sabeki” decorations. Here, Devi is known as “Adi Ma”.
Tematha Sarbojanin Jagadhatri puja:
Here the visitors’ attraction is mainly on the goddess Jagadhatri’s height. The idol decoration is really gorgeous that differs from other puja committees due to Devi’s larger size. Here, Devi is known as “Rani Ma”. Tematha Sarbojanin Jagadhatri puja will turn 78 in 2022.
Bagbazar Sarbojanin Jagadhatri Puja:
One of Chandannagar’s oldest pujas is this one. This puja committee will be celebrating its 188th year in 2022. The height of the goddess Jagadhatri attracts the visitor’s attention. Here the outfit of jagadhatri idol is very gorgeous.
Helapukur Sarbojanin Jagadhatri Puja:
The 53-year journey of the Helapukur Jagadhatri Puja committee will come to an end in 2022. It is one of Chandannagar’s best puja committee. Gold jewels are worn on Ma Jagadhatri and her lion. Here the decoration of Ma Jagadhatri attracts the visitors.
Tentultala Jagadhatri Puja:
In 2022, Bhadreswar Tentultala Jagadhatri Puja turns 230 years. The form and decoration of the idol here is indescribable. There are many customs associated with this puja and various stories behind it. The custom here is that only men can make Boron Ma Jagadhatri. The goddess here is also known as “Burima”.
Fatakgora Sarbojanin Jagadhatri Puja:
One of the well-known Jagadhatri Pujas in Chandannagar is performed by the Fatakgora Sarbojanin Jagadhatri Puja Committee. This puja committee will complete 70 years by 2022. Here the speciality of this puja is Ma Jagadhatri’s extended height and decoration.
Palpara Sarbojanin Jagadhatri Puja:
Palpara Jagadhatri Puja will be celebrating its 79th year in 2022. People go there to see in the goddess worship, lighting, and pandel decoration.
Natunpara Sarbojanin Jagadhatri puja:
This is one of the best Jagadhatri puja in Mankundu. Here Jagadhatri idol and pandel decoration attracts the people.
NeogiBagan Sarbojonin Jagadhatri puja:
It is also one of the best Jagadhatri puja in Mankundu. Here People from far and wide gather to see their idol decoration, pandal decoration, and lighting.
Circus Math Sarbojanin Jagadhatri puja:
It is the leading puja which is near Tematha Sarbojonin. Here the idol decoration and pandel decoration attracts the visitors.
Ambika Athletic Club Jagadhatri puja:
The decoration and lighting of the pandals attract the visitors. The 53-year tenure of this puja committee will end in 2022.
KaparPatty Jagadhatri Puja :
It is one of the oldest Jagadhatri Puja in Chandannagar. Maa Jagaddhatri is here decorated with “Sabeki” decoration. Here, Devi is known as “Mejo Ma”.
Khalisani Jagadhatri Puja:
This puja pandal is beside Chandannagar railway station. The jagadhatri idol is larger here. Jagadhatri idol Decorations and pandal decorations are eye catching here.
